What is a Pocket Beagle?
Is that a miniature beagle? You don't know how many times I have heard that question, and the answer is always the same...yes, but no! Olde English pocket beagles are the smallest pure bred beagles you can get. They are 100% beagle. They stand on average between 10" to 12". Weight varies. I've heard of pockets as small as 7 lbs and as large as 25 lbs. Our herd here at Desert Star ranges from 12-18 lbs with our average being 14-15 lbs.
The Olde English Pocket Beagle Registry keeps track of these magnificent animals. If it wasn't for Mr. Robert Mock, we would not have this wonderful breed today. The founder of the OEPBR began this registry in 1999. For more information about pocket beagles and the OEPBR, please visit www.OEPBR.com.
Our Story
I first discovered pocket beagles in 2004. I purchased my dream dog...a beagle named Honey...in 2003 from a pet store. She was so tiny I just assumed she was the runt. A year went by, and I could not believe her small size and disposition. She was not like any other beagle I had met. After much research, I came across the OEPBR. I learned all about these small incredible dogs. 11 years later, I made my dreams come true. I found my first girl who would grow to be the foundation, and Desert Star was born. Although we originally started out in Southeastern Arizona, we are now located in Northeastern Washington. With the help of my children and husband, our pocket beagles are spoiled and given lots of love! Even my daughter's friends will join in on the puppy snuggles. All of our puppies are exposed to all ages from toddlers to elderly.
